Protect Yourself Online

Password Best Practices

  • Use a unique, strong password with at least 12 characters, including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  • Never reuse your banking password on other websites.
  • Change your password every 90 days.
  • Never share your password with anyone — Heritage Bank will never ask for it.
  • Consider using a reputable password manager.

Safe Browsing Tips

  • Always verify the web address shows https:// and a lock icon before entering login credentials.
  • Bookmark our official website and use that bookmark to access your account.
  • Avoid accessing your bank account on public Wi-Fi networks. Use a VPN if necessary.
  • Keep your browser and operating system up to date with the latest security patches.
  • Install reputable antivirus software and keep it updated.

Recognizing Scams & Fraud

Phishing Emails & Texts

Phishing attempts try to trick you into revealing personal information. Watch for these red flags:

Urgency Tactics

Messages claiming your account will be closed or suspended unless you act immediately.

Suspicious Links

Links that look similar to legitimate URLs but have slight misspellings or extra characters.

Personal Info Requests

Emails asking for your SSN, password, PIN, or full account number.

Unexpected Attachments

Files or downloads you didn't request, which may contain malware.

Heritage Bank Will Never:
  • Call, email, or text you asking for your password, PIN, or full Social Security number.
  • Send you a link asking you to verify your account by entering login credentials.
  • Ask you to transfer money to a "safe" or "secure" account.
  • Pressure you to act immediately or threaten account closure.

What to Do If You Suspect Fraud

If you notice unauthorized transactions or suspect your account has been compromised, take these steps immediately:

  • Step 1: Call our 24/7 Fraud Hotline at 1-800-HERITAGE (option 3) to report suspicious activity and freeze your account if needed.
  • Step 2: Change your online banking password immediately from a secure device.
  • Step 3: Review your recent transactions and note any unauthorized activity.
  • Step 4: File a police report if you believe you are a victim of identity theft.
  • Step 5: Place a fraud alert on your credit reports by contacting one of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion).
Zero Liability Protection: Heritage Bank offers zero liability protection for unauthorized transactions reported within 60 days. You will not be held responsible for fraudulent transactions made on your account, provided you notify us promptly.

Mobile Banking Security

  • Only download the Heritage Bank app from the official App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Enable biometric login (fingerprint or face recognition) for added security.
  • Keep your mobile operating system and the Heritage Bank app up to date.
  • Enable remote wipe capabilities on your device in case it is lost or stolen.
  • Set a strong passcode or PIN on your mobile device.
  • Do not jailbreak or root your device, as this compromises security features.

FDIC Insurance Protection

Your Money Is Protected:

All deposits at Heritage Bank are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each account ownership category. This means even if the unexpected happens, your deposits are safe.
